The inaugural Rockingham Writers Convention on September 17 was a great success and marked the start of a new chapter for Rockingham Writers Centre. The convention has now become a highlight of the centre’s annual program and found its place on the State’s literary calendar.
The one-day event varies from many other literary festivals in that the focus is on writers rather than readers. With this in mind, the convention features a program of workshops designed to cater for writers at all stages of their development. An interstate literary agent and publisher join leading West Australian authors to share their expertise on a wide range of craft and publishing industry topics with writers in the region. Along with choosing from a comprehensive selection of workshop topics, convention attendees also have the opportunity to book individual pitch/critique sessions with n agent or publisher.
The convention is presented with funding from State and Local Government.
Planning is well under way for our next writers’ convention, to be held on September 7, 2019 at Baldivis Library and Community Centre.
